NORRISTOWN — A Norristown man who refused to be transported from jail to a courtroom to learn his fate on charges he had indecent contact with an underage girl in the borough was sentenced to a state prison term.
Kevin Tyrone Johnson, 38, of the 500 block of West Airy Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 7-to-14-years in a state correctional institution on felony charges of indecent assault of a child under 13 years old and corruption of a minor in connection with incidents that occurred between January and September 2020.
Judge Risa Vetri Ferman sentenced Johnson in absentia after hearing testimony from correctional officials that Johnson refused to be transported to the courthouse for the sentencing hearing. During a separate hearing, Ferman found that Johnson had notice of his sentencing date “and he willfully failed to appear…without good cause.”…
