Two people are facing charges for allegedly abusing an elderly Florida woman in their capacity as caretakers, and stealing her home’s deed out from under her, authorities said Friday.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said the “disturbing” investigation began back in July when a complaint was made to the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) alleging that the victim was being neglected and abused by her caretakers. A second complaint in October “raised additional concerns” about the victim’s physical and mental health.
In interviews with investigators, the victim described “being denied food, restricted from moving freely inside her home, and forced to use the restroom outdoors.” She was allegedly forced to bathe outside in a small tent using a garden hose that only provided cold water…
