Some Green Bay-area restaurants, grocery stores, businesses offer free meals during FoodShare delay

Some Green Bay-area grocery stores and restaurants are stepping in to provide free meals or support food pantries while FoodShare benefits are delayed.

FoodShare payments in November are delayed as the government shutdown continues. On Oct. 31, two federal judges rejected the argument that contingency funding couldn’t be used. Both judges gave the government until Nov. 3 to report to respond.

Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services said it is “closely monitoring” the lawsuit and announced that the judges’ decision could mean that at least part of November’s FoodShare benefits will be covered.
