As a student at Plano Senior High School, you have been a part of and experienced the community that defines Plano ISD. Last year, the district board unanimously voted to close down 4 campuses of Plano isd. These schools consist of Davis Elementary, Forman Elementary, Armstrong Middle School, and Carpenter Middle School. This decision, mainly pushed because of money and enrollment issues, marks a new route for Plano ISD.
The main reason for this shut down is the concern of decreasing enrollment especially in the east and central parts of Plano. Because of the decline in enrollment, the district is facing a budget problem. Schools like Carpenter middle school were projected to only be at 37% of the full capacity. The closing of these four schools is expected to save the district around $5 million in annual cost.
In addition, Davis Elementary was a very important school because of its Regional Day School Program for the Deaf (RDSPD). This program was able to help countless deaf students throughout the years. This program has been relocated to Harrington Elementary. Forman Elementary was known best for its bilingual program. The property is now being considered for becoming a new fire station 3. Armstrong middle school was a former National Blue Ribbon School. Armstrong was located with Carpenter in the east sector of Plano.
