The Academic Planning Committee is calling for a delay in finalizing the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s proposed budget cuts, joining growing doubts over the chancellor’s plan to eliminate programs to save money.
In a 12-page letter to Chancellor Rodney Bennett, the APC provided detailed feedback on his proposed $27.5 million budget cut. The APC’s response, informed by over 2,900 public comments, overwhelmingly opposed many parts of Bennett’s proposal to eliminate six programs and raised concerns about the process used to identify them.
The committee asked Bennett, NU President Jeffrey Gold, and the Board of Regents to delay finalizing the budget cuts to give each department time to find viable alternatives. The Board of Regents is scheduled to vote on a budget reduction plan on Dec. 5…
