A diverse batch of costumed children spooked the Southwest Missouri State College campus on October 1960, a few days before Halloween.
The children were participants in the traditional Goblin Parade, held each year by kindergarten students from the Greenwood training school. Before setting off on their march through Greenwood and SMS classrooms, the group paused for a quick photo with News-Leader staff.
They traveled in silence — not even speaking to one another — in order to keep their identities secret. Apart from the goblins, the costumes included ballerinas, cowboys, a skeleton or two, and a few assorted ghouls, to name a few…
