SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – The North Springfield Betterment Association has a committee dedicated to removing obstacles to academic development. It’s also known as the R.O.A.D. committee because ensuring kids can get to school is the biggest obstacle.
With donations and grants from organizations like Bass Pro, the organization builds high-quality bikes and gives them to kids for free, so they won’t ever have to wonder how to get to their classes each day.
“Biking is a really safe way to get to school,” said NSBA’s Maryam Mohammadkhani. “It gives you that independence. You can get to school on time, you know when you have to leave, so that you can get there. It gives them a sense of ownership, and I think that’s the foundation for doing well in school. I think it gets them where they need to be. Today, we met a student who is going to be using their bike not just to get to school but to get to all of the sports, various clubs, and activities, and those are the things that keep kids energized and plugged into school.”…
