PHOTOS: Chautauqua Co. firefighters battle water issues during house fire

(WJET/WFXP)– A Chautauqua County resident is without a home after a fire over the weekend, where at one point firefighters had to transport water from roughly three miles away.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, calls went out for that fire around 5:45 Sunday morning in the Town of Akrwright off of Park Road, with crews from 10 different fire departments responding.

The Forestville Fire Department said when crews arrived, they found a working fire inside the home and used a nearby dry hydrant that pulls water from nearby bodies of water in rural areas not far from the home as a water source.

However, while battling the flames, firefighters said the dry hydrant stopped supplying water for an unknown reason, requiring crews to use the next closest one about three miles away.

Crews were eventually able to get the fire under control, adding that the homeowner and their dog were able to make it out of the house safely, and the Red Cross has been contacted…
