Pomfret Man Arrested After Repeatedly Releasing Horses Onto Roadway

(WNY News Now) – POMFRET, N.Y. — A Pomfret man was taken into custody Friday night after deputies responded to reports of loose horses causing property damage and traffic hazards in the area.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the Town of Pomfret on October 31, 2025, around 8:03 p.m., following complaints of horses in the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies identified the horse’s owner as 39-year-old Jacob H. Tye of Pomfret.

Deputies reported that Tye had repeatedly released the animals, resulting in damage to nearby properties and creating safety risks for motorists. When deputies attempted to arrest him, Tye allegedly fled on foot in an effort to evade custody…
