Man shot by police after holding girlfriend hostage, LAPD says

A use-of-force investigation is underway after officers fired their weapon at a domestic violence suspect, who is accused of threatening his girlfriend with a firearm while holding her hostage in Northridge.

The initial incident began at 2 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to the area of Balcom Avenue and Rayen Street off White Oak Avenue in Northridge after a caller reported hearing fighting and a woman crying, the Los Angeles Police Department said Monday.

When officers arrived at the home on Balcom Avenue, they found a man, who was later identified as Louis Jordan Cortez, holding a woman, who later turned out to be his girlfriend, hostage at gunpoint…
