Multiple assaults reported after massive Halloween night disturbance in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Police responded to several reports of large disturbances involving hundreds of people in Providence early on the morning after Halloween.

Officers were monitoring a gathering of about 1,000 people in the area of Eaton Street and Radcliffe Avenue just after midnight Saturday when a fight reportedly broke out among roughly 300 people, according to the police report. Police said it was unsafe to intervene until backup arrived due to the “overwhelming unruly crowd.”

Officers were then told that someone had been assaulted and was bleeding heavily from the head. Witnesses told police the victim was attacked by about 20 men and lost consciousness. Police said the victim was unable to speak about what happened because of his injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment…
