A trip meant to bring hope and inspiration to young people from Detroit took a heartbreaking turn on I-75 in Monroe County. A limo bus carrying members of the city’s Community Violence Intervention Program crashed and rolled several times Thursday evening, sending eleven passengers, many of them teenagers, to area hospitals.

Michigan State Police say the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. near Nadeau Road, as the group was on its way to Cedar Point. For reasons still unknown, the bus veered off the highway and overturned multiple times. Several passengers were thrown from the vehicle during the violent rollover.
Fifteen people were onboard. Eleven were rushed to hospitals across the region, one person remains in critical condition, two others are seriously injured, and eight more are recovering from minor injuries.
