Arlington Police Use DNA Breakthrough to Solve 1985 Local Murder, Announced at State of the City

The 1985 murder of 26-year-old Terri McAdams in Arlington, Texas, has been resolved after nearly forty years. Police identified Bernard Sharp as the suspect in 2024 using advances in DNA technology and investigative genetic genealogy. Sharp died by suicide in 1985 after a separate double murder. Investigators confirmed his involvement through a DNA sample from a relative.

The development was announced during Mayor Jim Ross’ 2025 State of the City address. Arlington detectives used modern forensic methods to close the case.
