MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Lea Aschkenase made it her mission to help feed students and their families in the community. She was inspired by her mother, who after surviving the Holocaust, made it her mission to make sure no one went hungry.
“She was such a generous woman, which was a great model for me,” Aschkenase said.
Holocaust survivor’s experience shaped mission
That generosity began in an awful place. Thea, Lea’s mother, survived the Holocaust after she and her family hid in Italy for four years, then were found and spent the last year of the war in Auschwitz concentration camp.
