State lawmakers vow to improve daycare inspections after Fox 8’s ‘Lead Astray’ series

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Two state lawmakers vow to change state law on daycare lead inspections after Fox 8 exposed a reporting blind spot in its “Lead Astray” investigation.

Sen. Patrick McMath (R-Covington) and Sen. Gary Carter (D-New Orleans) told Fox 8 they would work toward establishing new requirements for daycares to report their lead testing before they open.

State law currently requires new daycares to test their grounds for lead hazards if the grounds haven’t been inspected or cleared for lead since 1978. It only requires the daycares notify the state if lead is found…
