Deputy charged with repeatedly hitting handcuffed man at Wichita hospital, WPD says

A Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy has been charged with misdemeanor battery for repeatedly hitting a handcuffed man several times at a hospital in September, the Wichita Police Department says.

Brett Anderson has been placed on administrative leave “pending the outcome of the criminal case,” the department said in a news release Monday. He is a six-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

The Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge Monday, and Anderson has been summoned to court for a first appearance on Dec. 1, court records show. No defense lawyer was listed for him in court records on Monday afternoon…
