Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade Mobilizes Local Resources as Federal SNAP Benefits End

As the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits came to an end on Nov. 1, Mayor Yemi Mobolade of Colorado Springs has been proactive, deploying city resources to help residents affected by the change. The city’s response involves connecting those in need with food assistance, support for utilities, and other essential services.

With the SNAP safety net pulled away, the mayor has emphasized community solidarity. “In Colorado Springs, we will not stand by while our neighbors go hungry – not our children, not our seniors, and not our residents living with disabilities,” Mayor Yemi stated in a news release published by the City of Colorado Springs on October 31st. He’s calling on all city stakeholders, including nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and businesses, to join forces and support vulnerable populations.

The initiative is an appeal to both those in need and those who can help. “If you are in need, help is available.
