Reno Native Arian Katsimbras to Be Honored with 2025 Silver Pen Award for Contributions to Nevada Literature

Poet Arian Katsimbras has been named the recipient of the 2025 Silver Pen Award. The award recognizes mid-career writers who have contributed to Nevada’s literary community. Established in 1996 by Larry Struve, the Silver Pen Award is part of the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame’s mission. It honors authors who live in or write about Nevada and have achieved notable success. The award encourages writers to continue developing their craft.

The Nevada Writers Hall of Fame was founded in 1988 by Marilyn Melton. Its goal is to honor Nevada’s literary figures and promote literary achievement in the state. The 2025 award ceremony will be hosted by Catherine Cardwell, Dean of University Libraries, on November 7, 2025, at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center’s Marilyn R. Melton Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Gallery. Additional activities will take place in the Leslie Harvey and Robert George Whittemore Tower Entry and Reception Gallery and the Wells Fargo Auditorium, all on the first floor of the center.

The program will include a welcome from Dean Cardwell, a remembrance of Joan Zenan, and remarks from the 2025 honorees, including Katsimbras and Keene. Both writers will give brief readings from their work. After the program, attendees can have wine and desserts. The Radical Cat bookstore will offer book sales, and both honorees will be available for signings. Tickets cost $25 in advance. Free parking will be available at the Brian Whalen Parking Complex…
