University Hosts Native American Heritage Month Events Celebrating Local Indigenous Communities in November

In November 2025, the University will observe Native American Heritage Month. This annual event recognizes the histories, traditions, and contributions of Native American and Indigenous peoples. The University, through the Office of Indigenous Relations and other campus groups, aims to support Indigenous students, faculty, and staff. The institution highlights the importance of their perspectives in its development.

Several events are planned throughout the month. On November 13, the Wells Fargo Auditorium at the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center will host a Native American Film Night. The event will show two documentaries: “Not Forgotten,” a short film by University graduate Jeremiah Sampson of the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe, and “Remaining Native,” a story about Ku Stevens, a Native American runner from Yerington, Nevada. Paige Bethmann, a Haudenosaunee filmmaker based in Reno, directed the second film.

On November 14, the Joe Crowley Student Union Theater will hold the JCSU Rock Your Mocs Movie Night, featuring the film “Crooked Arrows.” Attendees are invited to wear traditional moccasins and watch a film about tribal identity and lacrosse.
