Term Day in Madison Circuit sees three men’s cases scheduled for 2026 hearings

In Virginia’s legal system, term day is a court session for grand juries to meet and consider whether the commonwealth has met sufficient evidence for indictments to be handed down. The day also allows the court to open its calendar moving forward with setting defendant’s plea and trial dates.

Six grand jurors – three women and three men – sat Monday morning in Madison County Circuit Court to hear the commonwealth’s evidence and returned true bills against seven men and a woman charged by law enforcement with various felonies and misdemeanors.

Grand juries sit for a period of two months. In Madison, for example, the grand jury term ends January 5. 2026. In rare instances, a grand jury can be recalled if a commonwealth’s attorney wants to try for an indictment before waiting for the next term to come up…
