Coachella Valley food resources in the wake of SNAP lapses

Now that SNAP benefits through CAL-Fresh have been suspended, over 5.5 million California residents are facing food insecurity. Here in Riverside County that amounts to nearly 350-thousand people. There are some local resources available in the area.

All K-12 students in California receive free breakfast and lunch through the state’s Universal Meals Program, though it does not include dinner or weekend meals, now these are through the schools they attend. At Palm Springs Unified School District, for example, all students receive free breakfast, lunch and supper, and the district is urging families to have their children take advantage of the service. Students at Coachella Valley Unified and Desert Sands Unified school districts also receive free breakfast and lunch, with DSUSD noting those in after-school or expanded learning programs will continue to get free dinner…
