About 3,600 babies born in South Carolina each year are diagnosed with opioid dependence, developed in the womb and passed to them from mothers struggling with addiction.
Researchers at Clemson University expect the number of infants born addicted is actually much higher, as many cases go unreported or undiagnosed.
