Ijams Nature Center purchases new property, expands to 320 acres

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Ijams Nature Center has now acquired all of the property within its boundaries, marking a significant milestone as the center celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The two-acre property, located above Tharp Trace, was owned by Art Rall, who passed away in the spring. Ijams described Rall as a steadfast friend to the center, who was known for his independent spirit and love of softball.

“Art was truly one of a kind,” Amber Parker, president and CEO of Ijams Nature Center, said. “We are grateful for his family’s decision to work with Ijams to bring this land into conservation. It honors Art’s legacy and ensures that future generations will enjoy a fully protected, connected nature center.”

The purchase of Rall’s land expands Ijams’ land holdings to 320 acres, enhancing habitat connectivity, safeguarding crucial hillside vistas, and maintaining public access to Knoxville’s Urban Wilderness.
