SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Despite being forced to pause his relief efforts to assist families impacted by a gap in SNAP coverage, a local entrepreneur says he is ready to begin distributing more than $150,000 worth of Wegmans gift cards.
Jeff Knauss began his donation drive last week, and within days the applications for assistance were overwhelming, with more than 30,000 people applying for help. Despite pausing those efforts, Knauss has raised enough money to help hundreds of people.
The fundraiser collected more than $200,000. $150,000 will be distributed to more than 1,000 people who signed up to receive a donation. The remaining money will go towards Foodlink and the Food Bank of Central New York…
