MILWAUKEE The shingles vaccine is intended to prevent a painful rash caused by the reactivation of a virus – but a new study suggests that it could have major secondary benefits. Researchers say the vaccine may reduce the risk of developing dementia by nearly half and lower the risk of heart disease by a quarter in people 50 and over.
