Quick response key in Crooks house fire

CROOKS, S.D. (KELO) — A Crooks resident is being treated for severe injuries following a house fire on Halloween night.

The smoke that quickly filled the house made it hard for first responders when they first got there, but the victim was taken out of the home thanks to some quick thinking.

Crews were called to the home in the north part of Crooks at 7 p.m. Friday. Authorities believe it started as a grease fire.

“It flared up, and it got very, very hot very, very fast. There is extensive damage inside the home. I know it doesn’t look like much from out here, but there’s extensive damage to the kitchen and living room areas of the home,” Chief Mike Harstad of the Crooks Volunteer Fire Department said…
