Industrial fire in north Eugene challenges crews with tough access

EUGENE, Ore. – Firefighters faced a challenging battle as they worked to control a large industrial fire Monday evening at Schnitzer Steel in Eugene.

The fire broke out at 3:30 p.m., and by 7 p.m., it was still burning. Crews continued to respond defensively to the situation and police closed both north- and southbound lanes of Highway 99 for several hours while fire crews battled the blaze.
