The Alaska Railroad is celebrating its 2026 annual art print with a new work by Alaskan artist Richard Rearick.
Titled “Ship Creek Crossing”, the painting captures a freight train crossing Ship Creek in downtown Anchorage, a familiar scene to many residents and visitors. The bridge featured in the artwork, located at Alaska Railroad milepost 114.3, is scheduled for replacement as part of the railroad’s bridge rehabilitation program.
Artist and architect Richard Rearick says the painting honors both the historic bridge and the significance of Ship Creek as a hub of the Alaska Railroad. The piece highlights the railroad’s role in Anchorage’s economy, transportation, and culture, with Mount Susitna featured in the background…
