US News’ 2025-26 Best Places to Retire in NY: Where does Albany rank?

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — U.S. News World & Report released its 2025-26 Best Places to Retire in New York. The publication looked at the state’s cities and ranked them based on how well they meet Americans’ expectations for retirement.

The criteria evaluated included overall quality of life, value, health care quality, taxes, population, and job market. The full methodology for the report can be found on the U.S. News & World Report website.

When it comes to the Capital Region, quite a few cities made it into the top 20 places to retire in the state. The top ranked Capital Region city to retire in was Glens Falls, ranked fourth out of 859 cities with an overall score of 5.2 out of 10.

Following Glens Falls, Schenectady, Albany, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie were the next highest ranking Capital Region cities, sitting at 11, 14, 16, and 17 respectively. Each city had an overall score between 4.6 and 4.4…
