Knoxville food drives grow as families face reduced SNAP benefits

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — As some East Tennessee families adjust to reduced SNAP benefits following the federal government shutdown, two Knoxville food pantries say they are preparing for increased need and the community is stepping forward to help.

FISH Hospitality Pantries and Fountain City Ministry Center both distributed food this week, offering fresh produce, canned goods and staples at no cost.

David Walker, who volunteers with FISH, said the organization has already noticed more families coming through.
