“I wasn’t expecting this to happen on the first ballot, but I’m very pleased and hopefully, the public is pleased too,” Mark Kruea said at Whiskey Roots Bar and Grill after scoring one of the most stunning upsets in the city’s recent history, defeating two-term incumbent and Gov. Henry McMaster-backed Brenda Bethune.
