Rides on a vintage train through beautiful fall colors or with Santa Claus would not normally draw controversy.
But it has. The Wilmington & Western Railroad has been at the center of personal and legal tensions throughout 2025. A group of former volunteers has sworn against the organization’s structure and safety. The train’s board of directors is thinking about sky-high maintenance costs to keep trains running.
The railroad is between Greenbank Park in Prices Corner to Hockessin. The train usually has three cars, a locomotive, two cabooses and a diesel helper at the rear. It runs on a single, winding track through the Red Clay Valley in the more serene parts of northern New Castle County…
