DES MOINES, Iowa — The Polk County Board of Supervisors will hold a special session on Thursday to vote on providing $1 million to food assistance programs across the county in response to the delay in SNAP benefits.
The special session comes after it was announced that SNAP benefits would be reduced and delayed in November due to the federal government shutdown.

In a press release sent on Tuesday the board says providing the funding is “in recognition of the extreme hardship faced by SNAP-eligible households due to the suspension of benefits during the federal government shutdown.”
