LINCOLN, Neb — Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird is calling on Lincoln residents to support the Food Bank of Lincoln as the federal government’s food assistance program remains paused due to the government shutdown that began Oct. 29. The disruption affects approximately 26,000 SNAP recipients in Lancaster County.
“We know that when our neighbors need help, Lincoln always answers the call. Today, our message is clear: if you are able, please consider making a financial contribution to the Food Bank of Lincoln,” Mayor Baird said.
The Food Bank can provide about two meals for every dollar donated, thanks to its ability to purchase food supplies at a discount. Lancaster County Commissioner Sean Flowerday announced that the county will allocate $250,000 for emergency funding to assist affected families.
