Vigil planned in Melrose Park after Border Patrol arrest sparks outrage

MELROSE PARK, Ill. (WGN) — A small but vocal group gathered in Melrose Park for a protest and vigil in support of a man detained by Border Patrol on Sunday.

Community members are expressing anger over the arrest of 53-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez, who family and advocates say has lived in the U.S. without documentation since the mid-1980s and works in construction.

Rodriguez was reportedly riding his bike in Melrose Park when Border Patrol agents approached him. Organizers allege agents used excessive force during the arrest and say family members were not allowed to see him after he was taken to the hospital…
