Capital Region Water has informed Harrisburg residents about temporary water discoloration. This follows maintenance on a main water transmission line completed in early November 2025. The work caused minerals such as iron and manganese to mix into the water, giving it a reddish or brownish color. Officials state the discoloration does not pose a health risk for most people.
CEO Charlotte Katzenmoyer said crews are flushing water lines and checking water quality to restore normal conditions. Residents are advised to run cold water taps for several minutes and avoid doing laundry until the water is clear.
