LA Resident to Plead Guilty to Role in Medicare Fraud Case

A Los Angeles resident is expected to plead guilty Wednesday to her role in a scheme to defraud Medicare out of more than $54 million via hospice and diagnostic testing services that were never provided.

Sophia Shaklian, 38, of the Larchmont neighborhood, has agreed to enter a plea to a single count of health care fraud, a felony carrying a possible maximum sentence of 10 years behind bars, court papers show.
