West Texas A&M University Police Department investigates after reported Monday dorm burglary

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – West Texas A&M University officials issued a notification of a reported on-campus dorm room burglary that allegedly happened Monday evening.

Officials said the University Police Department received a report of the burglary on Tuesday, after a person allegedly entered a dorm room and took a student’s property sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Monday. The department is continuing to investigate the incident.

In its notification statement, WT officials offered suggestions to community members that could help prevent similar incidents, including:

  • Lock all outside doors and windows before leaving your home or office;
  • Ensure all locks are in working order;
  • If you arrive at work or home and find an unexplained broken or open window or door, do not enter, but instead contact the police;
  • Do not touch or clean up the scene until the police have inspected the area for evidence; and
  • Be a good neighbor. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call 911.
