Summit County continues fight against machine gun-like firearms; man sentenced to 10 years

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Summit County is continuing its fight to get illegal machine gun-like firearms off the streets.

‘SPEECHLESS’: Cars pack local street for food giveaway

Maurice Arnold, 33, was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison after he was found to have a “glock switch,” which is a device that attaches to a semi-automatic gun turning it into a fully automatic weapon.

This came after a jury found Arnold guilty of the following charges in September, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement:

  • Having Weapons While Under Disability with two Specifications for Forfeiture of a Weapon While Under Disability
  • Unlawful Possession of Dangerous Ordnance with a 6-Year Firearm Specification
  • Trafficking in Marijuana
  • Possession of Marijuana

Glock switches are illegal under federal and state law and law enforcement has seen a 784% increase of them on the streets since 2019, according to a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives report from earlier this year.

“Glock switches endanger everyone in our streets, and there is no need for anyone to own one,” Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich said in a statement Wednesday…
