Man Chokes Victim In Front Of 2 Children In Durham, Police Say

A 36-year-old man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges following a domestic incident in which police say he choked a woman and prevented her from calling for help while two children were present in a Greene County home.

The incident happened on Tuesday, Nov. 4, when troopers responded around 6:30 p.m. to a home on Route 145 in the town of Durham for a report of a physical domestic dispute, New York State Police announced on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Police said an investigation determined that 36-year-old Steven J. Hines, of East Durham, allegedly engaged in a violent altercation with a 35-year-old woman, during which he obstructed her breathing, stopped her from leaving the room, and took away her cellphone to stop her from calling for help…
