‘Ugly traffic boxes’: Artists can earn up to $3,000 in Fresno mini mural project

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Fresno is calling all artists, seasoned or beginner, to help transform intersections within the city.

As part of a Beautify Fresno initiative, city officials are working to transform plain traffic boxes into murals that reflect the city’s pride.

“I’ve heard for the last 4.5 plus years as the mayor,” said Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer, “people talk about more murals and what are we going to do with those ugly traffic boxes that you see at each of the intersections, because we know that oftentimes they become a graffiti magnet.”

Beginning Wednesday, artists of every background and style can apply to have their work displayed on one of 20 traffic boxes in Central Fresno. Councilmember Tyler Maxwell says this pilot is just the tip of what’s to follow…
