‘Get out of jail free’ card doesn’t work, police tell California driver

FULLERTON, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A “get out of jail free” card is not a valid legal defense, police say, after a driver in Southern California attempted to use the card after a traffic stop.

The BMW driver, who was trying to get out of a traffic citation, presented the card to officers “in a last-ditch effort,” according to the Fullerton Police Department.

In a post on social media on Tuesday, police admired the driver’s creativity but added that the “get out of jail free card” is not a legal defense.

While the Fullerton Police Department has made it clear that their officers do not honor the card, the rules of Monopoly do state that the card “may be kept until needed or sold.”…
