Prince George’s County offers cash assistance for impacted federal workers as government shutdown continues

OXON HILL, Md. (DC News Now) — Direct cash assistance is coming for some federal workers in Prince George’s County, the county’s council chair announced Wednesday morning, as the federal government shutdown reaches a record-breaking 36th day and federal workers go without pay.

Council Chair Edward Burroughs III announced a $1 million assistance fund for federal workers living in the county’s 8th District, alongside representatives from local mentoring organization 100 Black Men of Prince George’s County. The money will go to approved applicants impacted by the federal government shutdown and those affected by federal layoffs, reductions in force (RIFs) and firings earlier this year.
