An 18-year-old man has been charged with carjacking a driver in the Loop two years ago, when he was still a juvenile, Chicago police said Wednesday. CPD stated that the man was arrested yesterday at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center, located in the 1100 block of South Hamilton Avenue, indicating that he may still have other pending juvenile cases.
The September 24, 2023, carjacking was tied to another crime that happened minutes earlier, when a group of “Kia Boys” stole a Chicago police officer’s personal vehicle outside City Hall.
“Kia Boys” is a slang term for auto thieves who exploit security flaws to steal Kia and Hyundai vehicles.
