Kaplan restricts backyard chickens and birds with new ordinance

KAPLAN, La. (KLFY) – The City of Kaplan is implementing stricter regulations on backyard chickens and other domestic birds following the passage of a new city ordinance.

The Kaplan City Council recently approved an ordinance that limits the number of birds residents can own and establishes new requirements for their care and housing.

Under the new rules, residents living within city limits will be allowed to keep a maximum of five domestic birds, including chickens, ducks, and other fowl. Of those, no more than two may be roosters or other male birds…
