Boise Farmers Market extends SNAP benefits through November

BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — The Boise Farmers Market, in collaboration with the Treasure Valley Food Coalition, is extending its “SnapGap” benefits program through November to support struggling families in the Treasure Valley. The program provides $40 vouchers to SNAP recipients, allowing them to purchase farm-fresh foods and other goods exclusively at the Boise Farmers Market. The vouchers will be distributed every Saturday in November from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Boise Senior Center, located at 690 Robbins Road.

On Nov. 1, the market distributed over $21,976 to 551 SNAP households. The initiative aims to bolster the local food system and economy while addressing food insecurity. The market is actively seeking donations to reach its $100,000 goal, having already raised over $44,000. All funds will be directed to food-insecure community members.

Farmer Tim Sommer of Purple Sage Farms in Middleton, Idaho, emphasized the program’s dual benefits: “It’s dollars to our farm and food to hungry bellies.
