Spokane woman behind ‘Sit and Be Fit’ TV program passes away

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane woman who dedicated her life to helping older Americans live healthy lives passed away today, according to her daughter Gretchen.

87-year-old Mary Ann Wilson, the creator of Sit and Be Fit, a syndicated program seen on public television and online, died today surrounded by family at her Spokane home. She started her career as a registered nurse specializing in rehabilitation and geriatrics. In the mid-1980s, she started teaching a tone-and-stretch exercise program for seniors at a south hill senior center. In 1987, she started her Sit and Be Fit program, which is carried on nearly 90 percent of PBS stations across the country…
