Gwinnett Police Makes its Case Against the Formation of a PTCPD

In response to the two town hall meetings hosted by the City of Peachtree Corners to discuss the possibility of forming its own police department, GCPD held its own event on October 23 to present its case for keeping things the way they are.

Chief James D. McClure addressed the audience and set out to counter the perception that his department was slow to respond to calls or wasn’t a consistent presence in the city.

“One of the reasons I’m standing before you today is that we take tremendous pride in serving this community, and not only Peachtree Corners [but] the seven other cities that we provide law enforcement services for and all of the unincorporated areas,” said Chief McClure.

Through a series of slides, he presented information on police staffing, the increase in funding for the department over the last several years and the challenges they and other police departments have faced since 2020 in recruiting new officers…
