DHS disputes claims of teacher’s arrest in front of Chicago daycare students

CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is disputing a narrative that a teacher was arrested in front of students at a Chicago daycare on Wednesday, claiming that the woman fled into the daycare after immigration officers tried to pull her over on human smuggling charges.

Chicago alderman Matt Martin said U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) agents took a teacher from the Rayito del Sol Spanish immersion daycare and preschool, at Addison and Western Avenue, around 7 a.m.

“A member of our community was violently taken out of this daycare with children onsite, with fellow educators onsite,” said Martin. “I’ve seen video, both video that was taken by parents who were waiting in line to drop their kids off, as well as video footage from inside the building. It’s some of the most chilling video footage I have seen, certainly in my time in office.”…
