Ex-SAPD officers face life sentence for fatal shooting of woman in mental health crisis

SAN ANTONIO, Tx — Day 18 of wrapped up in the trial of three former San Antonio Police Department officers accused of killing 46-year-old Melissa Perez during a mental health crisis.

Former SAPD officers Nathaniel Villalobos, Alfredo Flores, and Eleazar Alejandro face up to life in prison for shooting Perez 16 times inside her apartment in June of 2023.

Prosecutors arguing the officers were aware that she was aggressive toward anyone who tried to enter her home and that the officers could have entered with a shield instead of shooting her. The defense calling the head of Kendall County’s Department of Criminal Investigations Division Butch Matjeka to the stand to give jurors a demonstration of why using a shield was not an option…
